Smith Playground

Smith Playground is MTWB’s second park revitalization project that garnered the momentum generated through the Ralph Brooks Park Revitalization Project. Smith Playground comprises nearly 8-acres at 24th and Snyder Streets in South Philadelphia. Phase 1 of the project was completed in Spring 2016 and included retrofits and expansion of the existing Rec Building increasing the programming space by more than 1,000 square feet. The renovations also included the addition of a kitchenette used for community cooking and baking classes, and the first WHYY & Keyspot Media Lab located at a Parks & Rec facility in partnership with The Tuttleman Foundation. Phase two of the project began in summer 2017 and included upgrades to the playground, resurfaced basketball courts, construction of new multi-sport turf playing fields, outdoor fitness area, walking trail and green stormwater infrastructure. Following construction, Smith Playground reopened to the community on April 21st, 2018.
