PURPOSE

Connor Barwin and his mom Margaret founded the Make The World Better Foundation in 2013 during his first season playing for the Eagles. They then teamed up with Jeffrey Tubbs, founder of Philly-based youth mentor org Urban Roots, whose track record of responsible, environmentally sustainable and inclusive real estate projects made him a great choice to become a Co-Founder. MTWB’s mission is to connect people and inspire stewardship through public space revitalization projects. MTWB believes that communities prosper when all people have access to high-quality public spaces that provide safe outlets for recreation, sports, and arts-based activities. Barwin and MTWB have invested over $30 million into four park revitalization projects in Philadelphia including Ralph Brooks Park (Point Breeze), Smith Playground (West Passyunk), Waterloo Playground (Kensington), and the Vare Recreation Center (Grays Ferry).

Chris Long launched the Chris Long Foundation in 2015 with the mission of galvanizing elite athletes and passionate fans to advance access to clean water and educational equity. Long’s Waterboys initiative has funded 139 deep borehole wells in Tanzania and Kenya, and to date has provided lasting clean water to over 580,000 people in the U.S. and East Africa, with the goal of reaching one million served. In 2017, Long pledged all 16 of his NFL game checks to support organizations that focus on education and opportunities for under-resourced youth. In 2021, Long launched EdZone, an initiative that works with partners and elementary schools in Charlottesville and Philadelphia to distribute high-quality books and essential needs items like hygiene products, setting kids up to be comfortable, confident, and ready to learn when they enter the classroom.
